Inception a la Menagerie

A beach - I was on a tour bus and we arrived at a large beach. I got off the bus, but I had to carry this old woman on my back. I didn't really want to, but I did it anyways. She kept asking me if the little crabs on the shore were "sugar crabs." I finally found them and pointed them out to her, as well as these pretty stratified stones left in stacks in the small tide pools. I carried her to a nearby staircase built into a dune - made of metal and glass. Crawling across on one of the staircase platforms was a giant snake - it was black, red and white with a sort of diamond pattern on it, with a large diamond shaped head. That meant it was venomous. It looked about and finally slithered away into the dune grasses. After it was gone, I set the woman down and told her to follow the steps. Then I climbed the stairs.

Over/around the next bend I saw two big clouded leopards. They were wild, and I wanted to photograph them, but as soon as I thought that, they leaped over a fence and back to their cage. Then I noticed there were employees around, in blue shirts. I decided to go and get my camera from the bus. As I tried to go back to the beach, a giant white tiger appeared at my side, sort of wuffing at me. - it was more white than white and black stripped. I put my hand on its neck and it led me back. At this point I noticed a new structure in the top of a large mountain/cliff - it was a grey concrete visitor's center. There was a toy/food truck driving around.

At some point I was walking along what looked like scaffolding, and I saw that Samantha from Sex and the City was trying to train this red macaw to not say dirty words. Then there were monkeys. They started mating, but it was awful - they were sinking their fangs into each other. I ran away from them when they started leaving their cages.

Suddenly, on the horizon I saw a giant thunderstorm. We (?) were back on the beach, but not near the buildings. All the zoo staff were packing up. I could see a dozen bolts of lightning interlacing from the clouds to the ground, and four black funnels were picking up dirt. I grabbed D. and we moved. He didn't want to go, but I was yelling about the storm. It was towering closer now. We made it to the staircase, but the wind was so strong I had to pull us up to each stair slowly. I didn't want to hid in the parking garage with the others - I wanted to be inside, in the bathroom where there wouldn't be any windows.

The wind was so strong - there was no rain.

We made it inside, to the bathroom, when the building started to collapse. The bathroom floor caved in under me, and I fell to the basement below....

And then I woke up in 2008...or 2006. I woke up, and P. was laughing about going to college. He had just got some sort of ridiculous exercise equipment that looked like half a jungle gym, which he wore on his shoulders. I was shocked, but then I was filled with relief to realize that I could do the past 3 years over. That none of it was real. I kept asking to confirm that I had just been asleep - that whole years had gone by in a dream.

* * *

At some point in this dream - I met a British African man who I remembered from somewhere. I told him so - and he seemed to agree with me? I think he was wearing a mask - either he was wearing a mask, or he was carrying a bunch of feathers - I can't remember

* * *

It's good to have such a clear dream, even if it is sort of a movie rip-off. There was more, but I can't remember it...I find it interesting that all the animals I saw where bigger than normal, except for that parrot.

Update

I have been dreaming. But I don't remember them very well.

For instance - I had some sort of dream that featured velociraptors, paintball, Chevy Chase, and going for ice cream in an ice storm at night.

I've also been away from my paperback dream journal. And I guess I've been a little lazy.

Basements, Rooftops, Abdomens

Part 1: I was in an episode of "Castle." And we were trying to stop a bomb from going off, but all anyone seemed to use was their cell phones. This was the earliest part of the dream, so I don't remember it that well. I remember it was nighttime, and that everyone seemed to be in pretty good spirits.

* * * *

Part 2: I was in a restaurant in the basement of what I thought was a sort of giant library, like at a University. The restaurant was not doing well because the cooks were behind and everyone was lazy. I don't think I actually worked at the restaurant, but I went into the kitchen and started organizing everything. Suddenly, dishes started being ready, and all the food went out with lots of waiters. I had a full bowl of scallop soup with vegetables, and had to deliver it to table 3 - I looked at a map of tables, but once I went out onto the floor I wasn't sure where to go. I had to walk past a lot of unsatisfied people who were upset their food wasn't out yet. I found the table - there were two men sitting there, with their backpacks on the floor. The one recognized his food and smiled at me. I almost spilled the soup, but did not. This man did not really resemble anyone I know. He had blue eyes - that's about what I remember.

So I kept walking around this lower level restaurant, and I kept smiling at this guy. And he kept smiling at me. Finally, I was allowed to leave the kitchens, and I was heading out when I bumped into him. He asked me if I was a pre-Med student, and I laughed and said no. I asked him what he was studying...but I can't remember what he said.....

* * * * *

Part 3: The lower level restaurant turned into a sort of video game set. The floor turned a glowing patchwork of purple and white, and these strange video game characters set up checkpoints all over the floor, and I had to go and see them. It reminded me of a trippy version of Fable, as I was visiting merchants and trying to afford to buy things. One of my stops was at an expensive rug dealer, who tried to kiss me then told me I couldn't afford the carpets yet. I was wandering around aimlessly after that, because no one actually told me what to do.

(Note: My brain, upon waking, keeps telling me that the video game "Pokemon White/Black" made an appearance here. I think I could have bought it, but didn't want to pay $50. The vendor in the dream, a purple woman-like creature was disappointed.)

Eventually, I found myself in a big glass elevator, moving over the landscape below me. I think the elevator was going down, but it was going down on a slope? Anyways, S was in the elevator, and he was complaining that he couldn't find anyone to properly inspect his nexus. I asked him was a nexus was, and he said it's the line between the abdomen muscles. He then took off his shirt and asked me to check. I ran a hand over his abs, noting that they were very well defined. He seemed happy with the information, and then gave this speech about how most women couldn't be objective about such things. In my mind, I was noting that it was difficult for me to be objective as well, and not distracted.

* * * * *

Part 4: I rented an apartment from a woman who was a teacher - I feel like she was someone I know in real life, but I'm not sure. Anyways, she said I could rent her apartment from her, as she was moving. At first I was cautiously optimistic, but when I saw her apartment I was ecstatic. The apartment was huge, with a circular shape around a big column. There was a living room, and a big kitchen, and everything looked really nice.

The first thing that seemed odd after my initial happiness was this giant staircase which apparently led nowhere. I didn't see why it was in the apartment. The next odd thing was a pothole in the ground. I couldn't figure out why it was there either. I called the woman about it, who was really chipper, and so I was chipper too. She stopped by to give me a drive around the apartment. It wasn't till we came to an intersection that I realized her apartment was adjacent to a parking lot, and then I was shocked to realize that her apartment was actually in a parking lot. Furthermore, there were no walls! And the ceilings were more like awnings which covered the traditional looking living room, dining room, etc. I could see now that her "apartment" was really on the roof of a parking garage, next to what appeared to be a big stadium (the stairs led up to the announcing booth)! How had I missed all this before?!

"I'm not sure this is going to work," I said....

February Ensemble: Blue Birds; Burning Planes; Red Bridges

Over the past few days, I've been having some really vivid dream sequences. Here are a few which I remember:

February 16, 2011:

I found a blue macaw in a sort of box. It climbed up my right arm, but its beak didn't hurt my skin when it bit me. It sat on my shoulder, and I named him Theodore. There was a smaller black bird, which I think was a mockingbird or a blackbird, and I named him Marius. He sat on my left hand for a little while.

Then I was walking through a cafeteria, which changed into a restaurant. I was supposed to meet my family, but there was a rule about not having birds in the restaurant. So I carried Theodore back to my room and set him down. When I went back, he was back on my shoulder. I didn't mind. Then I saw that there was a cat in the restaurant, and I was worried. Theodore crawled down my arm to land on the floor. Then he curled his beak into his chest, and shrunk. He turned himself into a tiny little tabby cat with yellow eyes. I laughed and picked him up, because he was small enough to fit into my hand.

Odd...Then we have:

-----------------------

February 14, 2011

I was standing in my old elementary school, sort of. It was like I was standing in front of it at the same time. Above me was a big plane, with a propeller on its nose. It reminded me of a B-24 crossed with a C-17, except for that nose propeller. It was stalling - I remember knowing that it wasn't giving enough power to the engine. It tipped over and started to fall from the sky. It's propeller came on, but too late. I started running as it crashed behind me in a blaze of fire.

Then I tried to run back, because I wanted to help. I kept getting stopped by people. There was this old doctor, wrinkled and trying to fix a body, who told me I didn't know how to do anything and that I wouldn't be helpful. I saw blood, and hospital curtains, and fire in the near distance, but I couldn't go through. So I left the doctor and tried to get around, but I couldn't get close to the crash. I saw one of my old teachers moving little children away, through the hallways. I was glad they were safe.

For some reason, the scenery sort of changed, because it wasn't the gymnasium of my old school anymore - it turned into a sort of field with woods around it. Women were looking for blood donors. I finally got close to the wreckage, but I didn't find anyone to help. Then I had to sneak away.

****

The biggest overall feeling I had for this dream was the feeling that I wanted to help, but wasn't allowed to. I knew I could do better, but I couldn't get close.

----------------------------

Then there was this one:

February 9(ish), 2011:

I was in a field, and I was some sort of guard I think. There were samurai in the field, which was hilly and full of golden grasses and wildflowers. I was hiding sometimes, but I really wanted to escape. I was so unhappy, even though the sun was shining.

I was following behind a group of people, being a lookout. Then I was all alone on a large, red wooden bridge. The bridge seemed to go off of a cliff ahead of me, and I walked along, not sure of what to do. I sensed that I was all alone on the bridge. The sky was blue, and the bridge was deep red. Suddenly, ahead of me, the bridge fell away at the end of the cliff, and I was overlooking the sea. It was breathtaking, and I was filled with joy. Below me the bridge was gone but I saw that steps fell steeply down to a sandy white beach, which contrasted brightly with the sea. I stood at the top of the bridge and felt the wind in my hair.

Below me, after what seemed like a long time, I climbed down the steps. As I got closer, the beach changed. There were people there now, and the water was segregated into sections. There was clear blue water and there were people swimming in it, but there was water that was dirty and no one wanted to be stuck in that. There were also dividers which broke the water up in sections. I remember thinking that it was sad that what looked so beautiful from above was not as nice in person.

Bad Snakes

Briefly, here's what I remember:

I was at a lake where I fished during the summer - big lake with lots of cattails around half of it, and a big willow tree at another curve. My nephew was with me, and he wanted to go swimming. I was nervous, because the water didn't look right. Normally the lake was clear, but this time it was cloudy and brown, like it was filled with silt. I went into the water, and it sloped away from me quickly, so that I had to go underwater to touch the bottom. I swam back to a shallower spot. He went to play by the water, a ways from me, and I was wading in the shallows, but I didn't like it. I kept expecting something to brush up against me, since the lake was full of big fish.

Then I saw a reddish brown snake weeding through the rushes towards my nephew. I rushed and grabbed the snake around the neck, and it seemed to grow bigger in my hands, teeth snapping. I threw it into the water, where it started swimming around. Then I could see another reddish brown snake coming through the cattails, and I could suddenly see more of them, all over the place, in the grasses and underwater. They were mean, angry snakes. I picked up my nephew and left the water, frightened.

"Ah, so that's why the fish can grow so big," I remember thinking. The snakes kept predators away. No wonder fishing is so good here.

*****

This dream worried me. Normally, I'm not scared of snakes in my dreams. When I was younger, I dreamed of snakes a lot, but there was always a neutrality about them, almost a friendliness. I've only had maybe one dream where snakes made me uneasy. This dream is the first I can recollect where I've been frightened of the snakes. Then again, these snakes were different from the ones I normally dream about - don't remember dreaming about rust-colored venomous ever before. Hmmm....

Too bad about the water as well - also a regular image in my head, and almost always positive.

Now why would my subconscious take two images that normally carry neutral-positive weight, and turn them negative all at once, at the same time?

Celebrity Stalker/ Plays on Pintos

I dreamed I was being stalked by old Richard Dreyfuss in a red Pinto. It was slightly terrifying because he was going to kill me. He kept leaving threatening messages on my phone, describing where I lived, my routine, and he would laugh at me.

So I was driving through the streets of Athens with my father and Freida Pinto, when I saw the red Pinto watching us from two blocks away. Richard Dreyfuss didn't know that we spotted him.

"Looks like those counter-surveillance classes paid off," Dad said, and we tried to lose him. We slowly pulled away and turned a corner, then a second corner, and stopped in a parking lot. I kept a lookout, and though he didn't know exactly where we were, he kept driving close to us, looking around. Each time he went down a nearby street, we moved on. We went down a hill, under an overpass, and kept turning, once, twice, or three times. Finally, I saw him turn the wrong way, and I knew we had lost him. We were so happy!

Then, on the way home, our street was blocked by a police car, and two policewomen. They didn't seem to be doing much. We sat in the car, tense. I looked over my shoulder, and saw the red pinto drive up behind us. Richard Dreyfuss had this ugly smile on his face. He didn't see me, but I could see him, and the young man sitting next to him in the passenger's seat of his car. I knew then that the policewomen were helping him look for our car.

We somehow made it to our home - it was a white condominium type building, with a staircase leading up from the carport to the house. On the way up, I set up an alarm system on the steps, so that he couldn't follow us. Outside, across the street, the red pinto parked. Dreyfuss called our house, and said he was going to get me. I watched him get out of the car, and start up the steps. He set off the alarm, which brought out all the neighbors. He then started crying about how someone had rigged his own steps to go off, and demanded to know who would be so cruel to an old man.

"All I want to do is go into my house," he said sadly, but I knew he was lying and that he was trying to turn the neighborhood against us. He started shouting for the "hoodlums" upstairs to come down, so I did. A man was standing next to my gate, who looked tired.

"Ella re," I said in Greek, and everyone on the street chuckled. "Kalisperasis," I said to the man in a tired voice, nonchalant.
"Kalisperasis," he said, and then I could hear him thinking - what is this old man's problem? And then I realized that I was a better actress than Richard Dreyfuss, and I pretended to be confused.
"But, this is my house," I said. "I set up the burglar alarm. Are you sure you're not confused, sir?" Everyone nodded. Richard Dreyfuss looked like he was going to skin me alive. I knew he was waiting till his lady cop friends arrived, so I started to ask my neighbors if anyone knew him. They didn't, but they remembered me.

Richard Dreyfus had to leave!

At least, that's what I think happened, because my dog woke me up at this point. I remember it all sort of starting falling apart once I decided to have an "act off" with stalker Richard Dreyfuss...strange

Also, I don't know why Freida Pinto was there - maybe it was a subliminal link to the word "pinto."

-----------------

Fragments from later - after my dog woke me up at 5am

I was on a runway, to fly a fighter jet. I pushed the throttle forward, and started racing down the runway. Then, at the last moment, I pulled back on the throttle. I decided I didn't want to fly the plane after all.

Morgan Freeman? He was working in a DMV under an assumed name

A medieval war. I was angry that our side was being blackmailed into surrendering, so I broke an arrow in half and slammed it into the opposing general's shoulder. Then I jumped up to a balcony....

Oceans F-4

Start of dream: A "Lord of the Rings" style woods. I was being tracked by an assassin, but we knew this and were prepping for it, Fellowship style (that is, fighting and training). I found myself in a port city, with Merry, selling food and tobacco to sailors for cash. We were bartering. But that sense of being followed was still with me.

We took a "wrong" turn (in that I don't really remember how we got there from the boats), and wound up in a canyon which looked a little like Petra, except there was access to the sea. The water was this beautiful shade of green...I could see the person stalking me now - a figure in a blue oriental mask. The figure was perched in a tree with no leaves.

There was an elevator in the rock face. I got on, and when the doors opened I was in a hotel lobby, where there was a modern art show going on. There was a giant rainbow ball made of fiberglass cords, and there was a crowd moving through the area. I walked through the lobby, down an underground parking garage/hallway thing, and found myself on a tarmac at night.

The airport looked empty, and I suddenly had this great idea to take a joy ride on the F-4 Phantom. I had a remote control that would let me steer the planes, and I remember thinking that I could just steer the F-4 and not get into it. But the F-4 was a lot harder to control than a simple prop plane, and I almost rammed it into a fuel tanker. So I climbed out of my trainer plane and ran over to the F-4. I think my nephew was with me. I thought I could just drive the Phantom around a little, and no one would know because it was empty, but as I started to climb into the plane, I saw a hanger open not too far away, revealing a full military parade! Then an air show started - the F-22A Raptor was being towed in front of me.

"Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit!" I kept repeating to myself, hopping in the Phantom. Trying not to get busted, I decided to park the plane on the other side of this chain link fence which separated the base from everything else. I did so, as one would a rental car.

"Bravo, Bravo. Identify yourself," said the radio. Off in the "distance" (fourth wall stuff), I could hear voices arguing about who was in the F-4, demands for attack, and lots of military lingo. I was tempted to say my name, and that they shouldn't worry because I wasn't stealing the airplane, only borrowing it. But instead I climbed out and took off across the desert-like tarmac back to the underground parking structure/hallway place. I didn't want to get caught. There I found my dad. I told him what had happened.

"Shit hot," he said. Then I felt handcuffs around my wrists, and two military officers were at my shoulders. I was under arrest, and they started leading me away. I kept telling them that I wasn't trying to break any laws, and that I wasn't stealing, but they didn't believe me. I was strangely euphoric through this whole section. I felt like I knew I was going to get caught all along, so getting caught didn't matter. It wasn't serious, like they were making it out to be. Before being put in prison, they stopped at a Starbucks which sold strawberries. Then I think they put me in a holding cell.

****

I feel like there was a gift store moment in between all this - like an old Cracker Barrel style gift store. They wanted me to buy something (a throw?) but I decided not to.

****

This dream ended rather abruptly - I woke up with no help at 6:39am, feeling that same sense of calm and slight euphoria. Then I couldn't believe I had tried to joyride a military jet. Overall, even with the first part of the dream being fantasy, the second part held the bigger emotional weight I suppose. Interesting that my dream self looked at incarceration as inevitable, and was nonplussed about being carted away.

I know - I've not been a good with the updates. I've been dreaming, then chronicling them in my paper journal. I will try to do better at putting them here as well.
